1st Nov 07 Mt Isa Mine. We kitted up our bright orange overalls, tightened our safety belt and attached our cap lamps, we stood beneath the headframe, descended into the mine 20 metres below in the cage, rode the mule through the winding tunnels, watched the scarry art of 'ring firing' we had a go at drilling holes in the face of the mine on the air-leg drill, we saw the BUK drill holes high above us, watched the track shovel and the three boom jumbo, we learned about rock bolting and heard the roar of the mucking unit, we had coffee in the crib room and felt the ground tremble with the firing of the face - it was awesome. Silver lead and zinc is mined here, and copper deep down.
