14 Jan 08 Broome Bureau of Meteorology. Look ...... there it is....... THE crystal ball of the Met Bureau............. it's true, they use it to measure
sunlight hours.
14 Jan 08 Broome BOM - our Weather Observer headed into this shed area (below) and ran away from us to inside somewhere (yep ran, and nobody, but nobody runs
in this neck of the woods at this time of year). DB and I looked at each other and waited......and waited.......he came out dressed in this lovely khaki BOM overcoat
and matching head piece and face protection. DB and I still silently looking at each other. Next he attached an orange weather balloon to a foil radar reflector, he
then filled the balloon with hydrogen and told us to stand back!!!!! We did!!!!!! This was all done at 2:00pm and the weather balloon was released at 2:15pm
precisely, as were thousands more all over the world at that exact same time. Then we ran around to watch the weather radar track it. Then back into the computers to
watch it log!
14 Jan 08 Broome BOM below is the digital rain gauge, inside it is a tipping eliptical shaped measuring device, the same insides as DB's rain gauge at home.
Next we ran inside to check out something very important on the computer - once again - if I tell you what we saw, we would have to chop you off at the knees (or as
per the Aboriginal customery punishment, we would spear you in the thigh)
14 Jan 08 Broome BOM - below is the anometer readout drum and tower - (ie wind measurer thingy)
14 Jan 08 Broome Bureau of Meteorology: Below left are the thermometers in the shade and out of wind factor. Below right is the Ultra Violet measurer
thingy.
Below left, you can see Tilda measuring evaporation rates, right is rain gauges, below right I can't remember, but it
is obviously something very important!!!!
