6 Sep 08 - Cygnet Bay - The Seeding Shed - as it was David's weekend off work, we were allowed to head across to the other side of the Pearl Farm in the little Suzuki through bush tracks and sandy trails (got bogged too) to witness Jacko - The Gun Pearl Technician of Broome - yep - they say he is the best......... to witness Jacko extract the beautiful pearl from the mother shell - and wow can he do it fast or what. The job definitely deserves the title of "Technician" or "Operator" because they operate like a surgeon, cutting into the gonads of the animal, extracting the pearl and popping a fresh "seed" into the mother shell. The impregnated mother shell then goes into a large trough full of fresh seawater with the other recovering mother shells to recover from surgery and then back to sea to start growing the new pearl all over again. It really is quite amazing, and to be given the privelege to see all of this happen first hand is very special..........not the least forgetting the security of the whole affair - one must be fully trusted to be allowed to go to the "Seeding Shed" - located way way over there somewhere following that track and turning at that tree onto that track and to the secret secret location - there is no map with an "X" on it marking the spot !!!!!!
