17 June 2008 - Fremantle - The Round House. It is the oldest remaining public building in WA, built in 1831, it was the Swan River Colony's first jail, then it was a police lock up and then as living quarters for the Chief Constable and his family. The stocks and pillories on the right were a form of punishment used in public places for all to see the victim and so missiles could be hurled at them. The hole for the head doesn't enable you to turn your head, and some didn't have a seat, the prisoner had to stand bent over............yuk yuk.........it didn't feel good I can tell you, and I was petrified Cathie would run off with the key and leave me there........thanks Cathie, I love you for not leaving me there!!!!!!!
