24 July 2009 - Persumpahen Island (aka Martin's Island) , West Sumatra - Indonesia -and here is our lovely destination at 1 degree, 7 minutes and 290 seconds - we almost made it to 00.00.000 the Equator - shucks would have liked to have kept going all the way to the Equator - never mind, next time........ Notice the coconut tree logs used for construction of the jetty !!!!! Those 2 little houses are the only ones on the Island, and Martin uses the houses for his local labourers as their accommodation. Persumpahen Island is very simple living, but very lovely.........no fresh water, no shops, no toilets, but they do make their own electricity and everyone owns a mobile phone !!!! And of course as we could not leave our beloved Windward until Quarantine & Customs cleared us, Martin's wonderful men came last night to greet us and brought some very precious cold liquid supplies - the trip over was of course a "dry" story, so it was great to break the drought! They were all very lovely and helpful to us. We up anchored this morning and motored back to the mainland to Teluk Bayur to Immigration, Customs & Visa. Margo did the sit in the corner in the saloon and not utter a peep whilst the various Officials checked us over .......... I even wore the head to toe cover up of long sleeves shirt and long pants -hmpf - hot too !!!!!
